Anyone for a Sew-Along?

Hello lovely readers. Sorry for the radio silence. I've been nursing a very sick husband. What seemed like a simple man-cold turned into the full-blown flu so I was forced to mother the hell out of him until he had no choice but to get better in order to save himself.

He's back at work today (God bless the military for making sick men go back to work) coughing on anyone he sees and probably starting another pandemic.

So I'm freeeeeeeeeee for the day until he comes home for soup, and I thought, this is a good time for a quick blog post!

I wanted to take a quick poll and get your opinions. Would any of you be interested in doing a short sew-along for the Ma Cherie French Knickers Pattern?

A friend of mine (who is a bit new to sewing) saw the pattern the other day and mentioned that the pattern, and in fact all underwear sewing looked quite intimidating to try. Having my self sewn what feels like a hundred of these while pattern testing, sewing knickers feels like a walk in the park for me. It is in fact, really easy, experienced or not, and I wanted to offer my help to anyone who was afraid to give them a try. Hence, a possible sew-along. If anyone is interested, I would love to know. If you're not interested in sewing knickers, is there another pattern you would like to do a sew-along for?

Whatever type of sew-along we end up doing, it will be my last one until the fall because I have great news to share with you! In just 3 months, we'll be moving back to the U.S.! Four years in Norway has been an incredible gift, filled with trials, lessons, many broken bones, and lots of blessings but I'm thrilled to start a new chapter soon.

We'll be settling into the Monterey, California area and I'm over the moon. I visited there once when I was a girl. It was my first time seeing the ocean (having been raised in the Mountains of Colorado my whole life) and I was just young enough to believe that it might have been the most magical place on earth!

Some sunshine will be a nice change :)

I'm going to go back to bed now to catch up on the sleep lost listening to my sicker half cough all night for almost a week (so I don't catch the flu myself!), but before I do, here is a hilarious video that very accurately details the horrors of man cold sufferers everywhere.

Happy weekend!

  4. Congrats on what sounds like an exciting move! I think I have too many sewing commitments right now to do a sewalong, but I'm definitely gearing up towards trying one of your patterns soon. I'm hoping maybe this summer. :)

  6. My boyfriend quarantines himself whenever he gets cold. Sometimes it is warranted, like when he got the stomach flu (EUW!) but other times it's a cold or allergies that doesn't go very far. But he's very good at taking care of himself.

Congrats on the move back! I'm a California native so it'll be great to have you here! I'm in the Southern/Orange-LA County/Disneyland area. Had a few storms and cold snaps but in comparison to Norway and the rest of the US it is quite splendid (if you can't live without the sun showing almost every day. I want to move to the Northwest to get more rain and fog).

A sew-along would be great! Really any underwear that uses silky, slippery fabric would be a HUGE help. To me it is less about the construction of the garment and more about dealing with the fabric that is a challenge. I know that if I try to wrangle in the fabric it won't look or be constructed very well.

  7. Congrats on your upcoming move! I'm sure you'll love the central coast. Not too far from me, either.

I would love to take part in a knicker challenge. I am new to your blog and have decided to start sewing up some lingerie and that would be perfect for me.

Hoping your husband returns to good health soon and that he didn't give the bug to you.

  8. Congrats on your move to Monterey! I've been there many, many times in my childhood. My grandparents lived there and we visited them every Sunday. Such a beautiful place to live, but then, I'm sure Norway is as well. My OTHER grandparents who lived in nearby Pacific Grove were from Norway! Kind of a strange little circle there... :) I also hope you continue your blog/etsy shop etc.

I've only just found your blog and although I crochet and don't sew, your blog is soooo interesting, I love it. More hours are needed in my day to read it all!! Please keep blogging, enjoy your sleep catch-up,

  11. Odd question, or not so odd, but could this pattern be made out of jersey? I was thinking of trying to pair them with one of your bralette patterns for sleeping/lounging.

    1. Definitely, Miranda! Stretch fabrics are fantastic in this design. I just made a pair out of tencil knit jersey and they're a dream to wear!

  12. Dear Anna, Wow! Men don't make good patients usually I've found. Poor guy hope he is feeling better soon! Monterey, California is our old stomping grounds. My husband is from there and I'm from Salinas which is 20 minutes inland from there. Small world huh? Probably I would not recognize my childhood town now. :( Best wishes! Knickers are cool!

  14. Congratulations on your move back to the US. I would love to take part in a Sew Along for the French Knickers. I picked up a piece of red satiny fabric at a bloggers meet up and swap. It will be perfect for these knickers!

  15. Congrats on the move. I love monteray but you may not see much sun. Lots of fog most of the year including summer. However a quick 20 min drive to any direction and you will see sun again.
