Sarah and I have decided to start with the French Pin-Up Corset Garter Belt pattern that I just recently finished.
If all goes according to plan, we'll also follow up with the French Pin-Up Bra Corselet.
And of course I would never do a Sew-Along without a coupon code! Take 15% off using the code "OOHLALA". Make sure that you click on the "Apply shop coupon code" link to add the code, otherwise etsy will charge you the full amount.
Sarah and I are working as we speak on our corset garter belts and we'll start posting soon, but not before you have a chance to gather some of the things you might need. I'll be working with a vintage peach satin for my corset and bra, and so far here's what you might need depending on what version you make:
I've got about 2 1/2 yards of fabric for both corset and bra.
4 garter clips, (optional) vintage or otherwise. I recommend removable ones if you can find them.
eyelet and eyelet punch or 1/2 yard hook and eye tape
corset boning (optional)
3 yards of matching bias binding or ribbon for edges
2 yards ribbon or cord for corset lacing (eyelet version only)
1/2 yard ribbon or plush elastic for attaching garter clips
3 bottles of wine
Naturally, there's also a giveaway attached! One of you will be chosen at random to win BOTH of these patterns!
To enter the giveaway you can do any or all of the following, just leave a comment for each entry to get your name in the hat!
1. Leave a comment telling me what your absolute favorite piece of lingerie is.
2. Become a follower of A Few Threads Loose on Twitter, Google, or Bloglovin'.
3. Like A Few Threads Loose on Facebook.
4. Like Mrs. Depew Vintage on Facebook.
5. Mention the Sew-Along on your blog.
I'll announce the winner this Tuesday the 21st.
Good luck!
What wonderful patterns! Thank you for the opportunity to win them. I like the way a good bra can make you feel, but have in recent years become very, very, fond of anything that includes garters. I have never liked wearing panty hose and tights are really just thicker pantyhose, so the discovery that I could wear garters (attached to anything really) has been phenomenal and they make you feel super sexy when you wear them (husbands also prefer them). Thanks again, and hopefully this will make me jump into sewing lingerie!
ReplyDeleteOooh this will be my first ever sew along, I've never made any lingerie before,I'm so nervous and excited! my favourite piece of lingerie is a black strapless, low back, bustier I bought for my 30th birthday in a really lovely old fashioned lingerie shop, where the lady looked at me for 2 seconds, told me what size I was, and then physically put me into it to make sure it was perfect. I love it, the boning in it gives the best shape I've ever had, it stays put no matter how hard I party, and works well under pretty much any dress or top. Better go get myself some bias binding and another bottle of wine x
ReplyDeleteI would have to say stockings would be my favorite part of lingerie. I have a pair of black ones with a flower design and they are super sexy. I've been nervous about sewing lingerie but after looking through your last sew along it doesn't look so bad.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I think that my favourite lingerie item is either tap pants or a slip! I have some lovely lingerie fabrics and laces on order so I can start making my own bras too! x
ReplyDeleteI hope I will ever be able to make something like this!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutly in love with garther belts because A: they hold up your stalkings :-D (why you don't say) and B: because when you have a tummy like me, you feel like a million bucks!! When I have it on I just imaging that I'm Marilyn Monroe and other icons of the most beautifull decade ever!!
So I hope I've got a shot at this and I will follow you sew-a-long with pleasure
Have a fab weekend!!
AmeliA
I think I'm going to have to go with a delicious pair of underpants as my favorite. There's nothing quite like the feeling of a great looking, comfortable pair of underpants.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I think I'd love to try this sew-along. It's not required to have a serger is it? That's usually my biggest road block when it comes to making my own lingerie, the directions always call for a serger.
You won't need a serger, I promise! That's the great thing about vintage patterns like these, they never used them!
DeleteI've recently started sewing again after a few years and i LOVE your blog and etsy store. I have to say, I'm a massive fan of garter belts with thigh high seamed stockings. my great grandmother once told me that she used to put her stockings on with white cotton gloves to she didnt destroy them with her nails- I wish that we took such attention to the small details in everyday wear in this day and age... Thank you again for your great blog, looking forward to the sew-a-long!
ReplyDeleteI've started wearing slips under dresses and skirts over winter and I have to admit I love them now! Not only do they add a little extra warmth and stop skirts clinging to your tights, they make your outfit feel that bit more luxurious to wear. I'm in the middle of making another one up in a luscious cream silk with black pin-dots from the stash. Just the lace trims and hem to do and I can't wait to wear it.
ReplyDeleteP.s. I noticed your date for announcing the winner is Tuesday the 14th... it's the 18th today!
I think my favourite piece of lingerie I own is a vintage gold slip I wear under everything... I'm really excited to learn more about shapewear though. I had been eyeing some Rago shapewear over on Modcloth but I would much rather learn myself!
ReplyDeleteawesome! Looking forward to trying it out :-)
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to try underwear but find it scary, hopefully this will sort me out!
ReplyDeleteThis sew along has answered my wildest dreams and prayers, I have always wanted to sew lingerie but have never known where to start! I'm not sure if I'll have time to sew along at the same time as you right now, but I will definitely be joining in at some point. I can't wait to see the whole process of making such beautiful things!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a tempting project. I think I'll have a look at the rather fab fabric stores in Oslo next time I'm there. I wonder what would be best; a sturdy cotton foundation fabric with a satin back crepe as top layer, or perhaps a cotton sateen?
ReplyDeleteI love a pair of really well-fitting, high-waisted but no legs panties!

ReplyDeleteAnd my absolute favorite piece of lingerie is my vintage long-line bullet bra. I really can't wear it out of the house because the girls are very hefty and that bra makes them very intimidating indeed, but it's so comfortable--the wide band provides so much support, it's amazing.
ReplyDeleteLovely! I haven't sewn a corset but really need one for a sleeker silouette. My fave lingerie would have to be a great fitting panty, something comfortable, non binding, doesn't show under pants... I know, magic pants! lol!
ReplyDeleteoh wow, what an amazing sew along! totally following you now!
ReplyDeletehttp://euphoricstimuli.wordpress.com ...blogger is doing is latest trick of not letting wordpress people comment properly..man I hope they sort it out, its getting so irritating!
My favorite piece of lingerie is this great bra that doesn't have a lot of padding, but still makes my little girls feel like they can compete with the big girls ;) I have one such bra that I bought from a lingerie shop where they imported their stuff from Europe. I love it - and it makes me feel, dare I say - SEXY?

ReplyDeleteMy favorite piece of lingerie is a vintage nightgown with robe, I got it for valentines day. Hubby is so happy that I want to give up on over sized tee and sweat pants-ish style night wear.

ReplyDeleteI do follow you on google. And I just noticed that I need 3 bottles of wine...will some 2 bottles and some homemade spirits suffice?
ReplyDeleteThis would be so much fun to win! Would love to participate in your sew along!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite lingerie is a pretty bra. they make me feel so sexy :)
ReplyDeleteFor the 3 bottles of wine- you mean big bottles, right? :)

ReplyDeleteWell this is brilliant timing - I've been thinking about having a go at making underwear (though I find the thought a little scary!) AND I've been looking at getting a girdle/50s corset, though they're rather expensive, so I'd love to make one! Thanks a lot for doing the sew-along: I'll feel a lot more confident with a bit of hand-holding! And double-thanks for having a giveaway for the patterns!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite lingerie? I don't have any! That's one of the reasons I want to try making some. I'm an awkward bra size, which is hard to find and is always pretty expensive when I do find it. So hopefully, what I make will become my favourite item of lingerie :)

ReplyDeleteOh goody! I have been eying up the underwear out there- I am so disappointed with modern underwear quality!
ReplyDeleteFavourite piece of underwear... Well I have a favourite bra, and a favourite pair of panties (well loved enough to develop holes- hence the need for new stuff lol) but no real favourite ITEM of underwear. I guess I just need to get more to try out!
I'm following this site.

ReplyDeleteI'm so excited. I love the stuff from Ohhh Lulu and I adore your patterns. I'm guessing the three bottles of wine are the most important thing to get. My favourite piece of lingerie is my vintage garter belt.
ReplyDeleteHow fun--this sew-along is going to be fantastic!!! I think my favorite piece of lingerie are the vintage slips I own! I have quite a few (read: too many), but they are perfect for layering under just about anything--and always make me feel gorgeous because they're all lacy and fancy. ;)
ReplyDeleteAwesome patterns!! I have to say my favorite lingerie is stockings because for some reason a good pair of them make my confidence level increase majorly!!!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great sew along, however I may only be able to watch from the sidelines as I'm sewing a wedding dress for a friend! But the pattern would be great to have for after that project is all complete! I've been a lurker off and on but now I'm following through Google!

ReplyDeleteI am not much a lingerie person anymore, I do have some fancy things I bought a long time ago from Victoria's Secret but right now I'm really loving my plain jane semi-bullet bra I found at Sears. I can't believe I went so long with round cupped bras with a light padding...I feel more confident and better supported with my new ones and it gives me a subtle vintage line under my blouses and sweaters.

ReplyDeleteoh wonderful! 2012 is definitely my year to attempt to make some lingerie. I have one bra that fits me better than any of the others, and it gets worn *constantly*. It would be great to make some and have that be the norm!
ReplyDeleteOh to be able to make beautiful lingerie that actually fits. And a pattern give away! Great! I have liked you on Facebook.

My favorite piece of lingerie has yet to be found. It will be one that I can not tell I have on but does help garments fit correct. It will fit correctly without binding, pinching and yet provide the support I need. grin..... maybe these patterns are the start I need.

What a fabulous looking pattern! My favorite piece of lingerie is my Victorian corset, but I definitely need more retro undies to add to my collection!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win this and can't wait to take part in the sew-along. My fave piece is my new What Katie Did garter belt. I only got it at the end of last winter so I didn't get to wear it much. But this year I'll wear it more!
ReplyDeleteI'm now following on Twitter too :-D
ReplyDeletePlus I already like the A Few Threads Loose FB page :-D
ReplyDeleteAnd also Mrs Depew Vintage :-D
ReplyDeleteMy favourite piece of lingerie is a vintage full black slip that not only can I wear under dresses, but I also wear as a night dress - it clings in all the right places and is very comfy (I would like to make a 40s style silk one one day though).
ReplyDeleteI will do all the other tasks shortly - happy to promote your great work girls! xxx
my girdle but I have only one so this is perfect!!
ReplyDeleteMy fav peice of lingerie has to be full briefs because I love the way they don't leave a visable line through your clothing. I am so excited about this sew along as I have always wanted to try making lingerie.
ReplyDeleteJippeh! I will sooo participate! I was just looking into lingerie sewing, so this is great. Migth just not model them on myself when i finish:-) Favourit piece of lingerie? Probably anything that´s nice, at the moment i´m trying to sew some tap pants. Just one question: what kind of fabric? Especially, with or without stretch?
ReplyDeleteOh how empowering it would be to be able to make my own underwear! I've added you to my bloglovin' thingamajig...
ReplyDeleteCount me in!
I would love to try - love the idea of a long line bra. Claire ge.it@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteNot for the giveaway, but how do the measurements work on the corselette? Is the 38" the underbust or the overbust measurement? I wanna try it but I'm not sure about the fit and I don't think i'm up to resizing lingerie!
ReplyDeleteI have never made my own underwear but I love the girdle. So I will join the sew along, count me in!

ReplyDeleteSo fun! My girlfriends and I were just talking about making our own bras! Personally my fav piece of lingerie is a slip, positively dripping in lace and fitted perfectly. Thanks for hosting this!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous idea for a sew along! I'm definitely in for this. My favourite piece of lingerie would have to be my roll on girdle/suspender. It's super comfy for everday wear and has six straps to hold stockings securely. However, I would love to have a go at making my own vintage style underpinings.

ReplyDeleteI liked A a few threads on facebook and my favorite piece of lingerie is the matching top and bottom in something lacy. Thanks for the chance to win such a great pattern!
ReplyDeleteDoes an industrial garter belt count as lingerie? It's so super simple, but I love it because it's so useful. I can use it for stockings or socks, and it's lines are so minimalist, I feel I can wear it with almost anything.
