I have spent literally hours looking at lingerie patterns online today. My vision is swimming and when I close my eyes, I see yards of elastic and silk. Gah, I need help! But, I finally came to some nice conclusions. I was planning to buy the gorgeous Nutmeg bralette and tap pant pattern by Colette Patterns even though I was convinced that I would find it ultimately unflattering on my figure. (Sometimes you just know) I changed my mind at the last minute and instead I spent hours, and most of my paypal balance on different patterns to get what I was looking for. To make the black satin tap pants I've been dreaming about I plan to use this lovely little late 1940's pattern:

More Aprons

After spending 8 hours on my feet making tasty espresso drinks today, I'm not feeling particularly verbose. So I shall just share a bit about the aprons that I made for the staff of Tørste Søstre (a.k.a. work).
I don't know what I was thinking but I failed to take pictures of these after I made them. I had one home the other day for a small repair and remembered to take a few shots of it. Bear in mind that it was in need of a washing because we sling espresso around like baristas on crack sometimes.

The Vintage Closet

One of the many reasons that I sew my own clothes is that I'm not fond of seeing people walk around in something I have in my closet at home, or something I happen to be wearing, or worse, having them look better in it!

That's why every chance I get, and the obnoxious mini accountant on my shoulder doesn't throw a hissy fit, I buy vintage.

Mod Headband Tutorial

Today I was really looking forward to starting on the Burda coat that I've been waiting to sew.  I think I may have made a mistake in pre-washing my taffeta so while I try 6 dozen things to try and iron out all the wrinkles that WON'T GO AWAY, here's a headband tutorial.

This is the perfect project for small leftover scraps from other projects.

You will need:

Fabric scraps big enough for the template

Approx. 9 1/4" elastic (I use 1/4" wide)

Cut two different pieces on the fold using the template. You can use two pieces of the same fabric or two contrasting pieces. If you're wanting to be able to wear either side up, avoid using thin or sheer fabrics because your seam allowance will show through on one side.

Plain lingerie, I think NOT!

I love the sheen to the polished cotton.

I am utterly fed up with sewing lovely skirts only to find out later that they are partially or completely see through. I haven't learned how to properly line something yet (that will be another blog topic for later as I stumble through figuring that one out) so my natural solution would be lingerie. I sort of have a thing about frilly, lacy, silky, sexy little underthings and the thought of making, let alone wearing, a plain old half slip was not appealing in the least. How is that a project to look forward to?
Rather than not wear the 5 (yes, I really am ridiculous enough to make that mistake 5 times, honestly) see-though skirts that I have made over the last several months, I tried my hand at the half slip. With embellishments, of course.

With a slightly stoned cat in my lap, I am beginning my first foray into blogging about sewing (which I want to do more of), cooking (which I do too much of already) and at the moment, how annoying my neighbors are. The law in Norway forbids the physical punishment of one's children which, if you ask me, is going to turn out one badly behaved next generation. The neighbors, God bless them, seem to ignore that rule and I am now listening to one hell of a spanking. I'm sure it was well deserved, but goodness, I'm thinking about calling the Politi just to get them to shut that damn kid up. I shall attempt to drown out the sound with some rather furious sewing as I put the last finishing touches on my first half slip. Pictures and bitching to follow.
